Festive Van

 One of my favourite vans - Mr Jenkins - has had a Christmas makeover.  I couldn't resist sharing it with you.

 

Hello Mr Jones

 I stumbled across the delightful Mr Jones and thought I'd share him with you.  A clever couple in Byron Bay have rescued this beauty and given him a new lease on life.
This 10ft caravan was originally built in 1952 but is now seeing a new life in 2012.

Mr Jones has had a complete makeover to begin his new life as a mobile bar, 'with the interior being completely gutted and refitted with an insane solid wood bar, two large ice sinks, 2 small bar fridges. And for those whole like to experience the VIP side to life, Mr Jenkins has his own leather seating area, fitting up to 4 guests at a time. With the hanging crystal chandelier and the back bar that looks out, this is a perfect space for some glamourous photo opportunities.' (Mr Jones website)

It is refreshing to see a caravan makeover that does not include anything 'cute'.  Mr Jones is extremely stylish and is wearing his new incarnation with aplomb.

On The Road

The family headed out for our Easter Odyssey - camping in the King Valley in Victoria - and it was such a relief to finally be all packed and heading off up The Hume.  I knew it was going to be a good holiday when I spotted this out the car window......  this gem lead to a half hour discussion on what we would do with this little beauty if she was ours.

Close to our destination we headed through the tiny town of Moyhu only to come to a screeching halt when we saw this....

a U-turn was executed, photos were taken and we headed on our way, only to spot this delight down the road....

 

This van actually warranted us all getting out of the car and peeking in her windows.  Her name is 'Ruby' and she is in wonderful condition but at $6000.00 we sadly bid her farewell and hope that she finds herself a wonderful home.


Surfer Boy and I would have been happy on a road trip spotting vans but the kids started to ark up so off to camp we went.

Caravanning

The amazingly talented Joy Harmon Prouty from Wildflowers Photography is off on an adventure with her family and her CARAVAN!  I've been having such withdrawals from our van and it has been fun seeing this one on it's travels.

Shasta

 

I have posted a picture of this caravan previously but I have now discovered more about this gem.

  She is owned by 'Enjoy Cupcakes' who have a bakery in Los Olivos California.  They use the  restored vintage Shasta caravan to travel to events with their gorgeous cupcakes, and she is often the focal point for wedding receptions and special occassions with guests served from this lovley girl.

Retro Christmas

Christmas is done and dusted for another year and I'm pleased to say that Lorelai (the caravan) was not forgotten - she may be feeling a little unloved as she patiently waits for her home to cease being a building site, but she scored rather well in the gift giving this year.
First up was the fabulous 1950's radio that I received which after a little love is likely to work again and take up residence in the van.

And wouldn't you know it - Surfer Boy's present was also a radio!  What are the odds?  Neither of us have ever bought a radio before in our lives - or even mentioned them for that matter and yet we both had the same idea.
His is a reproduction of the BUSH radio and actually has digital radio as well as AM FM.  The sound is fabulous and I can picture the family picnicing in style.

On top of these gems Lorelai will also be receiving a wonderful crocheted blanket courtesy of my mother in law and some fabulous 1950's salt and pepper shakers.  I think once she sees all her loot she won't feel nearly so neglected.

 There's nothing better than getting the mail and finding something that isn't a bill - especially when it's my Caravan magazine!

Caravan Love

They may not exactly be my style but they are still fabulous.

I'm missing Lorelai and can't wait to get her back. We visited her at the house yesterday and so far she is surviving the build well.

Caravan - Interior decorating at last.

Here is the interior the day we picked her up - the curtains and cushions were the first things to go - mainly because they stunk!

We decided to have the cushions upholstered properly so we found a lovely guy who specialises in car upholstery and chose a teal that was common in the 1950's.  I couldn't resist adding white trim and white buttons and after some initial problems they are now home and back in their rightful home.

You may notice the cushion I bought on ebay - and the bigger one has been made from an old tablecloth I couldn't bare to throw out.

I was having a lot of trouble deciding on a fabric for the curtains as I wanted to tie blue in with the teal of the upholstry and after much internet surfing I had come to the realisation that it wasn't going to be as easy as I thought.  In the end I have decided to buy a bit of the fabrics I like and use them all in the curtains.  I have done this on the kids bunks and it has been quite effective.  I think I'll then back them with an old cornflower blue sheet that I have.  Best I get the machine out.
