Moondoggie's Room

We are heading slowly but surely to the time when I can get my 'Martha Stewart' on and start decorating. I have had serious withdrawals as there is not much to get creative about when you are squatting in someone else's home.

Moondoggie will have his very own room and I have realised that he has absolutely no furniture to go in it.  The kids always shared and the built in beds will of course stay in Gidget's room.  I think somewhere in the mess of stored furniture there is an old bed head that belonged to Surfer Boy so until we get around to building him his ideal bed that will have to suffice.  I'm  keeping my fingers crossed that there will be something we can re-purpose as clothing storage..  poor Moondoggie - me thinks it will be a while until his room is 'a joy to behold'.

I have secretly fallen in love with this wallpaper though - I have visions of it on one of the walls of his room but I don't think it is all that practical when he is already 8 and may grow out of it - do pre-teens like robot wallpaper??

It is from Dutch design label STUDIO DITTE who also make this wonderful car version as well.

It may be safer, and cheaper to just add some colour.  I think Gidget is hankering after a yellow wall in her room so maybe we'll see if Moondoggie would like one too.  It's going to be a slow work in progress but that's OK - we're getting used to that!

Bedrooms & Bookshelves

There are many things I would do if I was still single and living in a warehouse or loft would be one of them.  Not sure I could sleep with a taxidermied (is that even a word?) animal that close though.  This person obviously has no intention of being anything other than single if the single bed is any indication.

Gidget's Nook

I make it a general rule not to go up to my daughter's top bunk more than is necessary and only if she invites me as it is very much her space and when you share a room with your brother it's very necessary to have some privacy.

As a result I leave her to it except every couple of weeks when I storm the citadel to change the linen and make sure nothing unseemly is growing up there.  Today was one such days.

WOW!! Is there a lot of stuff up there!!  After throwing armfuls of extra bedding, books, folders, diaries off the bunk to go back in their rightful homes I was left with the most wonderful snap shot of pre-teen life.

Amongst the array of soft toys and fairies there are movie posters, pictures of Katie Perry and Kylie, letters from friends, album covers from the likes of Mylie, jewellery and a million other treasures.  Although it looks insane, when you look closer you realise that everything is immaculately arranged.  I sat up there for ages just taking it all in.  Often when we lie up there to read together she tells me about the stuff and it's significance and it's the most amazing window in to her world.
I am actually rather jealous of her space as when the curtain is drawn and the lamp is on it is the most delicious hide-a-way.

Perhaps I need to incorporate my own nook in to the extension?
