The Fate of Serendipity

The Inn from Nights In Rodanthe has been coping a severe beating from the ocean and the elements.

LUCKILY...

Ben and Debra Huss visited the home last year and after falling in love with it they were determined to rescue it!  Thanks to them, Serendipity is going to get a happy ending!

And in January of this year the house was finally moved to safety to live many more years giving joy to fans of the movie.

How cool is that!

House On Rodanthe

Remember the fabulous inn from the Richard Gere-Diane Lane movie Nights in Rodanthe? In real life, it’s known as “Serendipity,” a house that sits on the edge of the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina.

Apparently the set crew changed the house by adding the blue shutters, a gazebo and decks which I must say is a great improvement as the original home looks a little bare without them.

The house was built in 1988 with piling driven down 14 feet and set in concrete. At the time, there was 400 feet of beach in front of the house. Now, sadly, the beach front is gone, and the ocean is slowly washing the house away.  The county was in the process of declaring Serendipity a public nuisance, which means that the owners will have to either move the house or have it torn down.  Apparently they have been trying to sell it but to no avail.

Shop Love - Ink & Spindle

Well it isn't actually a shop, but a studio... Ink & Spindle is a boutique screen-printing studio run by two Melbourne textile designers – Lara Cameron and Tegan Rose.

I am a long term lover of their fabrics and met the girls early on in my blogging life through Lara's blog Kirin Notebook.

They specialise in high quality textile printing for designers and independent labels such as the fabulous Nancy Bird, Knuffle Kid, Heavenly Creatures, and many more.  But my favourites are the fabrics of their own design.  One that I can't get out of my head is their Birch design.  I fell in love with it years ago and am waiting for the day it evolves in to a wallpaper so I can gaze at it all day long.

The difficulty will be deciding on a colour-way!

Now that CHALK is opening in Kensington we will be neighbours (sort of) as the girl's studio is housed in the famous Younghusband Wool Store building - (Suite 206, 10 Elizabeth Street Kensington)

Can't wait to drop by and visit!

Wednesday Wedding - Vintage Whimsey

This wedding makes me smile - there is nothing like a profusion of colour to make a day special.

Whenever I enter The Younger Sun my eye is drawn to this book and this morning I arrived for breakfast next door and realised I had left my book at home - disaster.  The advantage being I could almost justify buying another book - and gee am I glad I did.  Loving it already.  Here's a taste...

Reno Update

Plans are approved, new architect on board, building drawings in progress - looks like this thing might actually happen.
I think it might now be time for a bit of cutting and pasting.  My sister-in-law is in the process of building a massive new home and over the weekend we were pouring over her folder of clippings - pages and pages of ideas with notes and arrows scribbled everywhere.  Fabulous. 
I also have collected reams of pictures that I love for one reason or another but it is all in folders on the computer - think it's time to print it off and make a hard copy.  There is something about handling the actual pages that works for me.
It's the same reason I will never own an e-reader thingy!  that is a rant for another day.  I'm off to start printing....

Window Seat

I have just realised that I haven't factored a window seat/reading nook in to my house plans.  What a disaster.  I'm going to have to fish the plans out and see what I can come up with - I figure with Surfer Boy doing all the cabinet making I should be able to work something out.

Wednesday Wedding - Yee Ha!

I don't think it's any secret why I love this wedding!  All it took were the girls in boots to hook me.  The red truck certainly helped as did the fabulous colour of those frocks!
